Licensure Exemptions / Temporary License Provisions

What are provisions for Temporary Licensure and Exemption?

There are several provisions for License Exemption or temporary License Provisions. Each has a different set of requirements for eligiblity. 

  • Graduate Status (Grad Status)
  • Temporary Licensure (Temp License)
  • Exemptions

Graduate Status 

Grad Status" Applicants (NRS 640.120) Pursuant to Nevada Revised Statutes (NRS) 640.120, individuals who meet the qualifications for licensure as a physical therapist or physical therapist assistant, except for certain specified conditions (NRS 640.080 or NRS  640.092), may be granted Graduate Status

You may be eligible for Graduate Status if you 

  • Have a completed Application
  • Graduated from a CAPTE accredited program
  • Have not attempted the NPTE Exam, but are registered for one 

and

  • Have an employer with a Physical Therapist prepared to supervise you.

Grad Status PTA

Temporary Licensure

Under NRS 640.145, the Nevada Physical Therapy Board may approve an 
Expedited License before the background check report is fully completed, for 
applicants who hold a valid, unrestricted physical therapy license from 
another state, have completed a Nevada PT/PTA application for licensure,
and have submitted their fingerprints for a background check.

You may eligible for a Temporary license if you 

  • are an Endorsement Candidate 
  • have submitted application and are only awaiting the background check for the application to be complete

and

  • Have an employer with a Physical Therapist prepared to supervise you

License Exemptions

Under NRS 640.120, the Board may issue, without examination, a  license to practice as a PT or PTA for a period not to exceed 6 months to any person who meets the qualifications of NRS 640.080 or NRS 640.092, upon certification that the person has been assigned to the State of Nevada temporarily to assist in a medical emergency.
